Amyclides, a beautiful Spartan prince, was Apollo’s lover. They travelled together in Apollo’s swan-drawn chariot to sacred lands. Upon Amyclides' death, Apollo, unable to become mortal to join him in the underworld, transformed his blood into the hyacinth flower, immortalising their love.
