The Irene pendant takes the shape of a Byzantine noble, with edges wreathed by freshwater pearl, agate and jade. From short chains, three amethysts are suspended below. Irene Doukaina was a Byzantine Empress of the 12th Century. Although married to her husband, the Emperor, at only eleven years old, over the course of her lifetime she managed to gain power within the court, and wield political influence. She fought for her daughter Anna to be her successor, rather than her son, and the close bond she shared with her child is expressed through Anna’s writing about her mother. Handcrafted and individually cast. Each piece is unique which we believe gives them their beauty. Measurements: 4.9cm x 2cm

Gold has a tendency to scratch, so extra care should be taken when wearing and cleaning to maintain quality and appearance.

Sterling silver that is worn regularly requires less care, so we encourage you to wear your silver treasures daily.
