What is 18K Gold-Plated jewellery?
Over a base of lead- and nickel-free bronze, a layer of 18K gold is applied through a process called micron plating. This layer of gold is then dipped in ceramic to increase the longevity of the piece. Gold-plated jewellery carries the appearance of gold at a lower price than Solid Gold.
How long does plating last?
A rule of thumb is that for every micron of gold applied a year of as-new wear can be expected if the jewellery care instructions are carefully followed. Our Gold-Plated pieces use 1.5 microns of gold. Pieces that come into close contact with the skin, such as rings may wear more quickly, while pendants or earrings may stay in as-new condition for longer. If your piece begins to show signs of wear, it can be refreshed with our re-plating service.
