About Olivia

Cleopatra's Bling is at once an ode to the past and a celebration of the present. Founded in 2014 by the visionary designer, Olivia Cummings, it draws inspiration from the cultural heritage and enduring beauty of the Mediterranean and Middle East, as well as the verdant landscapes of Olivia’s Australian home.

When creating each piece of ethical jewellery Olivia and her team approach it as a work of art, crafted by hand with passion and care, and imbued with ancient symbolism. From glittering gold and silver, to precious stones, intricate beading, and hand-poured enamel, the techniques used both produce a feast for the senses, and also keep alive traditions that are often thousands of years old. Our artisans, from Turkey to Italy to India, breathe life into Olivia’s designs, braiding together cultural legacies with contemporary design sensibilities.

This ethos goes beyond simply an aesthetic one: we treasure the past, but also our responsibility to preserve the future. Our commitment to ethics and sustainability runs deeply through our label, weaving a tapestry of tradition and innovation with a love for our planet.

The Demi-Fine range of 18k gold plated, Sterling Silver, and Vermeil offers both statement pieces and everyday jewellery, all of which is steeped with academically researched folkloric and mythological information, referring to the historical symbols and design inspirations that the pieces contain.

For a bespoke experience, the Fine range of Sterling Silver and 14k and 18k Solid Gold, inlaid with luxurious stones, gives clients the ability to create heirloom pieces that can be treasured for a lifetime. The brand specialises in taking clients’ stories and infusing them in deeply researched symbols, carefully and ethically sourced gemstones, and poetic designs.

The extensive collections are akin to a gallery containing works of art from various locations and ages. With meticulous attention to detail each necklace, pendant, ring, or earring is crafted with love and passion by the skilled gemologists and metalsmiths with whom we have the privilege to work. Every gem, engraving, and bead that adorns contribute to a collective of signs that tell a tale in a language that exceeds words.

As time goes on, each piece grows in beauty and value, becoming more than just a jewel, but a work of art that evokes emotions and memories. These can then be passed down as heirloom items to future loved ones, so that the preciousness of these traditions is preserved.

Olivia's Journey

After studying business in Paris, Olivia relocated to Istanbul where she began to train under the artisans or usta in the Grand Bazaar.

There she learned traditional jewellery-making techniques such as wax moulding and lost-wax casting from people who had been plying their trade for generations. She also came into contact with many items of ancient jewellery and archeological marvels, developing a historical knowledge further broadened by a move to Naples, which has its own rich design history. In Italy she established connections to the master Florentine goldsmiths, famed worldwide for their unparalleled abilities with precious metals and miniature gemstones, and began to concentratedly develop her bespoke ranges.

Many years later she returned to her hometown of Melbourne, which had always provided much inspiration in the form of its lush nature, wide skies, and multicultural society. In 2025 she is located between Madrid and Melbourne, adding Spanish to the number of languages - including English, Turkish, German, Italian, French - which she speaks.
