Two saints who lived in the Roman province of Africa under the Emperor Severus were persecuted and thrown in jail. Although Perpetua came from a wealthy, noble family, and Felicitas was a slave, the two young women formed an unbreakable bond. Their sacrifices and fortitude have been remembered in the naming of a rambling rose, whose pale pink buds become pure white when they bloom.
