Hydna is one of the most influential women of Ancient Greek history. She swam and dove like a fish, surpassing almost all who lived in her region, and delighting in the bright blue Aegean Sea. When her town was threatened by warships, she and her father covertly swam out to the vessels and cut their mooring ropes, causing them to be tossed into one another by the waves, and crushed. She was hailed as a hero for saving her town. Statues depicting her and her father were erected in Delphi in their honor.
