Drystan was the son of the King of Picts, Tallorc, upon whom the Arthurian legend of Tristan and Isolde is based. As Tristan his story was told and retold throughout the ages, as one of deep, unending, and yet star crossed love. He and Isolde met when she nursed him back to health, from the brink of death. But she was destined to marry another prince, and become Queen of Cornwall. Tristan pined after her for decades, until, on his deathbed he requested she come to care for him one final time. Risking her own life, she came to him across the seas, with white sails lifted to indicate her presence aboard the ship. A messenger falsely told him that the ship flew black sails, and he died of a broken heart, believing she was not aboard, before she could arrive. She joined him in death, where they could eternally be by one anothers’ sides. The Drystan Pendant carries the face of a prince on one side, and an inscription of eternal devotion on the other: for my lover, pour mon amoureux.
