Galatea - meaning milky white in ancient Greek - is the name given to the statue, carved from ivory by Pygmalion of Cyprus. The myth tells that the sculptor found the statue he created so beautiful, that he begged the Gods to bring her to life. Aphrodite, taking pity on him, breathed warmth into Galatea and united the pair of lovers in marriage. The Galatea Studs are set with solid Australian opal. Pictured here in 14K solid yellow gold.
